This blog is only kind of about food. It is more about an idea I have. The idea of using the awesome resources we have here in Port Huron.
Sure we have the water, but it isn't very lucrative to to a lot of the businesses in the area since there is no place for people to just pull their boat up, jump out and have dinner and a couple drinks, or be able park their boat and stroll around town and see the shops and galleries. People might even spend some money in these businesses.
The awesome resources I'm talking about using, are the businesses that are already here. The restaurants, bars, bands, and art galleries. I'm not sure if any of you have ever heard of “Arts, Beats and Eats” which is a huge weekend long festival that is held annually on Labor Day weekend in downtown Pontiac.
Our community has all the same resources just on a smaller scale. If it were held at Vantage Point there could be multiple stages with different kinds of music being played by different bands. This would ensure everyone could be entertained at the same time.
All the local restaurants could set up booths for people to buy their food , and if they like it, maybe they will come back to Port Huron in the future just to eat there. (At Arts Eats and Beats food tickets are sold and then each booth has redemption values listed for the food items) The music could be the free entertainment that draws the crowd, and the food, drinks and art is what would get sold to create revenue.
I realize that this summer has just come to an end but now is when we should start planning an events for next year. Boat Night is a great draw and the old car parade doesn't do too bad for the north end of town, but a festival that showcases all the businesses that Port Huron has to offer would almost be like an infomercial for the whole city and all of it's businesses.
